Mac is back!
A Washington lobbyist sued The New York Times and several of its reporters and editors Tuesday, charging that the newspaper had falsely created an impression that she had engaged in an improper romantic relationship with Senator John McCain. [...]
"Ms. Iseman did not engage in any behavior toward him that was anything other than professional and appropriate," said the suit, which seeks damages of $27 million.
Man, this really has to hack off John McCain. With the 111th Congress convening in just one week, I'm guessing he was planning a PR campaign to repair his tattered image and become another "Lion of the Senate." Instead, he'll be learning how many ways there are to say:
The article quoted Ms. Iseman and Mr. McCain as denying that they had ever had a romantic relationship or engaged in any inappropriate behavior.
Maybe he'll hold a press conference and say, "I did not have sex with that woman, Vicki Iseman."
At the time this story was originally published, it was maddening to watch the media focus on the allegations of an affair, while ignoring the article's main point: that McCain had done legislative favors for Iseman's clients. But the election is over, we won, so if the media wants to treat it like a sex scandal...
