Mayor Mike is pushing an initiative for a charter revision mandating non-partisan elections that will be on the ballot here in NYC this November.
I hear it's a "good government" issue and a lot of American cities do something similar, but a lot of folks in NYC are against it, the Democratic party, labor, NYPIRG and other "good government" groups.
I attended a rather stormy committee hearing about it in Brooklyn in Aug 2002 (there were vocal protests and a scuffle) but haven't heard anything about it until recently, and it's on the ballot in a week. Is the CW that this proposal is dead?

So what's your take on it? In NYC or out, or in one of the other cities that have NP elections?
Any thoughts on the other ballot proposals?
Or NY State proposals?
