The Clintons and just about everyone in the MSM were saying as recently as Thursday that Texas and Ohio were Hillary's "firewall." But a new theme seems to be emerging. Even with the last eleven contest victories under Obama's belt and all of the Super Delegate movement in his direction and away from hers, many of the talking heads are claiming that "Hillary is not out of it yet," and "never underestimate a Clinton." And as recently as yesterday, Chris Matthews asked what would happen if Hillary didn't win "the popular vote in either Texas or Ohio."
Now we all know that if the tables were turned and Obama had suffered all these losses, the Democratic elite would have been calling for Obama to drop out way back after Super Tuesday. But as he commented when asked about that today in his press conference, he knows that's true and the reason no one is calling for her to drop out is because he's the 'insurgent' and the 'upstart.'
But all of this has allowed her to continue on, denigrate her opponent which has the potential to hurt the Dems in the fall, and potentially deny Obama the nomination. Today she commented that she has a "special relationship" with the Super Delegates. She continues to ride the "seat the Florida and Michigan delegates" train and refuses to say whether or not she'll take this fight all the way to the convention.
In the debate Thursday, she said the nomination process will "work itself out," refusing to answer the question about whether or not Super Delegates should vote based on the will of their constituents.
None of her surrogates is willing to go out gracefully and are instead stepping up their attacks and continuing to insinuate the last eleven contests didn't count because they were either caucuses, or they were in states that don't favor Democratic demographics (whatever...).
Anyway, as I was watching Kitty Pilgrim on Lou Dobbs repeating the MSM meme that "Hillary isn't out of it yet," it made me realize just how much the right-wing nutjobs and even the SCLM either a) wants Hillary to be the nominee because she'll be easier to beat or b) wants this fight to go on and on to boost their ratings. And I started thinking the unthinkable. What if they continue playing the "Hillary is a fighter" theme just enough to sway the undecideds and she somehow ekes out wins in Texas and Ohio?
For the record, I believe Obama can win Texas and get enough delegates in Ohio to hopefully put this whole thing to rest (I don't believe she'd drop out even at that point, but hopefully the party elders will step in and get her to listen to reason).
Apologies because I don't know how to create a poll... but I'd love to hear from fellow Obama supporters about what you think Plan B should be, should the unthinkable happen, and she wins either the popular vote (per Chris Matthews) or the delegate count in either and/or both Texas and Ohio.
