It didn't take long for
Al Jazeera to report on the
NY Times article today that the Bush Administration was
planning on rigging the Iraqi elections.
First, from Al Jazeera today:
The New York Times reported that U.S. President George Bush had approved a covert plan to influence the outcome of Iraq's January 2005 election, but dropped it amid opposition from the United States Congress.
But wait! Al Jazeera apparently has yet to get the news reported today by Seymour Hersh in the
New Yorker magazine that
the same people who promised Congress (and specifically Nancy Pelosi) to drop that misguided effort apparently went right ahead and did it anyway!
More after the break
Here's what Hersh reports:
Sometime after last November's Presidential election, I was told by past and present intelligence and military officials, the Bush Administration decided to override Pelosi's objections and covertly intervene in the Iraqi election. A former national-security official told me that he had learned of the effort from "people who worked the beat"--those involved in the operation. It was necessary, he added, "because they couldn't afford to have a disaster."
Disaster? You want to talk disaster, wait until Al Jazeera reports tomorrow in their Talking Points Memo that Bush and Cheney rigged the Iraqi election. And knowing that rigging elections and other forms of rat fucking are specialties of Karl Rove, he's probably involved up to his eyeballs in this.
Al Qaeda is going to be all over this one, folks, and the Bush Administration had better come clean and come early in explaining this titanic blunder.
Call me a moron, but I think the shit is about to hit every Arab fan in the Middle East.
