Hello I am David Orentlicher and I am a candidate for the 7th Congressional District of Indiana. I am working hard to meet with and listen to the votes of the 7th and in doing so will be hosting a live-blog tomorrow night. I will be taking questions and discussing my vision for the 7th District.
I also have recently announced my ethics pledge to the 7th District and encourage you to take a moment to look at it and let me know what you think. I look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow night at 9pm at www.BlueIndiana.net <http://www.blueindiana.net>.
Best,
David Orentlicher
David Orentlicher's Ethics Pledge to the 7th District
- No PAC money. If we want to be serious about reducing the influence of money in politics, we have to start with political action committees. I will not take any PAC money for this campaign, nor for any re-election campaign.
- No lobbyist gifts. I will refuse all gifts, meals and travel paid by outside sources, including travel, lodging and meals in conjunction with fundraisers. The laws in Washington may change on this issue, but my policies will not: I will not take a dime or other favors from lobbyists, and neither will my staff.
- It is time to shut the revolving door. Former members and staff who try to cash in on their connections will not be welcome. I will not allow my staff or myself to be lobbied by any former member of Congress with whom I have served, nor by a former member of my staff who becomes a registered federal lobbyist.
- I will represent Indiana interests only. I will not accept a meeting with a lobbyist without an IN-07 constituent they represent.
- My schedule will be transparent. Every day, I will post a list of every in-office meeting that I or my staff has had with a lobbyist.
- If you do not deserve a pay raise, you should not get one. There is no reason that Congress should be giving itself pay raises when so many Americans are struggling to make ends meet – particularly with the high cost of health care. I will not accept any pay raise until Congress passes and the President signs a law providing for universal health insurance.
- You do not have to take my word for it. I will submit my own records, and those of my office, to an annual ethics audit by a trusted independent source.
