Over at talking point memo, Observer2 have proven to be a BRILLIANT researcher. Here's the the blast from the past, Observer2 found:
"There's a real tug-of-war up here," said one House member. "Especially on this side, there are a lot of people who are terrified that all the character questions, all the negatives about Clinton that showed up in New York, make him so weak that a lot of people will lose their seats."
A prominent Senator, who also asked not to be identified, added, "lots of people are hearing from home, 'Keep it open, even if the odds make it look impossible,' because Clinton may self-destruct before the convention." As a result, predicted the Senator, who remains uncommitted, "it's not going to shift into cruise control for Bill Clinton very soon."
The article goes on to say:
In California, whose June 2 primary will provide the grand finale of the nominating campaign, only 2 of 34 superdelegates, Representatives Calvin Dooley and Maxine Waters, have endorsed Mr. Clinton. In Pennsylvania, site of the next major test, only 3 of 19, including two Members of Congress, have done so.
Another large group of uncommitted superdelegates are representatives of labor unions. Lane Kirkland, head of the A.F.L.-C.I.O., has summoned its Political Work Committee to a meeting on Monday in Washington to discuss Presidential politics, and some labor superdelegates, like George Korpius of the machinists, said they might have something to say following that session.
Nathan Landow of Maryland, a leading Democratic money-raiser, has called together 65 big party contributors to discuss "how a brokered convention might work." They will meet Mr. Landow, a former Tsongas backer, on April 23.
Observer is asking for help in getting the word out! If you have contacts in media who would follow up on this, please feel free to send it.
I made the case, I thought, in another diarythat minus the sleazy behavior that characterized Bill Clinton's gubernatorial run and Presidency, Sen. Obama and Bill Clinton had a lot in common.
Tall, slim, guy raised by a tough and brave single mother - and his grandparents who help her?
A man who never got to know his father?
Bright kid who gets a scholarship to private ivy league institutions?
An attorney who goes on to become a politician in his "home state"?
He becomes a champion of the poor?
He believes in HOPE and change?
He addresses the Democratic National Convention and four years later runs for President?
Less experienced than his Republican rival, but still with enough experience to earn the trust of many in his party?
Drop by and give Observer a little love if you have the time.
Hopefully this will shake up Hillary's memory and remind her what happened with her own husband, running against 'President George Bush', when others told him that he couldn't do it, that he'd only self destruct in front of the Republicans and the American public.
