Join the General Election with 5,568 + 301!! Obama Volunteers Saturday!

This may be the most effective diary you've read today.  

The General Election has started... Get on Board Obama Volunteers. May 10th, we rise as One and Change the Playing Field Forever.

Last night there were 4912 signed up. As of Noon EST, there are 5,568!  And the first diary didn't even make it to the Rec list.

You'll note below, Some states have more spirit than others... Utah is certainly blazing a trail.  Take a look, find your state, your city, join up, circulate this diary, send it to your local Obama Groups, Grow your numbers.

Total as of Noon EST Tuesday- 5598 Volunteers Ready for Change!  These are Volunteers who are joining together in the Vote for Change events across the country, already 100 events plus, who will gather through the mybo.com website and go out into their community to register new Voters across the country.  New voters are usually Democratic in their leanings.

This is going to get the ball rolling on what will, by the end of it, be the largest Voter Registration Drive in the History of the USA.  Barack Obama is famous for his Voter Registration Successes in the early 90's in Chicago, and gathering the will of his 1.5M Donors, channeling the energy of his thousands of volunteers, Obama will swell the Rolls across the country in every state.  

Note that all of these events are set up by locals.  If your city or town doesn't have an event, please, create one and make note in the comments. And if you find I've missed a city or town, please, give me a link.  I worked with the earlier diary which fished out all the events through the main webportal and at this point, there are many places like Boston, Baltimore, Pittsburg, Denver, Boulder, Baton Rouge, and others which need an event/host.

    In NYC, we have people signing up in different places and in different ways, plus many planning to come who are not signed up (some who aren't online types).

    This makes it difficult to get a good count, but I'd rather underestimate than overestimate our turnout.

    We were handing out fliers all day on Sunday, and there was a LOT of enthusiasm.

          a targeted voter registration drive will go to places where there are more democrats in general.  No one would be turned away if they didn't want to support Obama or the Democrat, but if you focused energy in places where democrats outnumber republicans, then you'll natually net more democrats then republicans.

            1. This whole "free democracy" silliness either works or it does not.  If you believe it does, then participate whole-heartedly and if some folks disagree with you that comes with the terrain.

            2.  If you believe in the system, then you put your beliefs to the test.  If you and about half of the other folks agree, your views get to be enacted to see how they work out.

            Don't fear The Other Side, there isn't really one.

      See if you can coordinate with a local grass roots office and get a team together to work with the rules of your state.

      Then try to contact the campaign to have your event/city listed on the big national board.  They'll push this i'm sure later in the week. If you get it all set up today then it'll find volunteers all week.

  It certainly helps to see just what level of support a community has given to an event.  In places like Atlanta, Nashville, Dallas and Detroit, this even will definitely affect the General Election.

  Some people may have been reluctant to join, but now since the numbers are taking off and the national tally is approaching 6000 strong, this is the sort of thing that's the start of a real landscape changer.

  Pathetic.  My wife and I were sign-up numbers 4 & 5 for Cincinnati, since we'll be down visiting her Mom on the 10th, but where the flock is Cleveland?  The most progressive part of the state has no kick-off event?  Oh well, we'll be at it...we got around 100 Pittsburghers registered in the 6 weekends of canvassing there, so with all Summer to work, we'll be looking to add WAY more Ohioans than that to the voter rolls for November.

  I knew this effort was coming up soon, but kinda spaced out about it.  Thanks to your diary I am now signed up for Saturday and Fired Up and Ready to Go!

  As most folks know, New Mexico was a close split in the Dem primary, and this state is pretty purplish.  I don't mind signing up Hillary supporters or, just this once, even Republicans :).  It's about the Democratic Process IMHO.  

  There's a lot of good folks out here trying to help us get all the way blue and Saturday might do a lot for that effort.  Given the mood of the country these days, and the fact that we have some hotly contested Dem primaries for Congress coming up I think we'll be very successful out here getting folks involved in the process.

  Obama can get 20K plus in one event so all of his grass roots support adds up to 5.5K people and only one event with a handful of people in many states?  We need to get dozens of events in every state and tens if not hundreds of thousands of people involved.  I know everyone is focused on today and all . . .

    Just wondering, did you spend time in the campaign?  The extent that most people take their involvement is into the voting booth.  Getting people to make phone calls is Hard.  Getting people to knock on Doors is Extremely Hard.  Getting people to give up a Saturday to register Voters is Beyond Extremely Hard.     20k people to watch the next President talk is easy.

    Having someone sit infront of a grocery store with a neighbor and ask random people to register to vote is something entirely different, and something entirely beautiful.

  We already know how this state will vote in November.  My plan is to do GOTV in Nevada or AZ for the general election.  

  Still, I guess it is worthwhile to increase the registration even in this blue state.

    there were a bunch of volunteer opportunities for Saturday (starts at 7am i believe) that have to do with the Congressional District Conventions/Assemblies that are happening on Saturday.  There are trainings on Wednesday for these Saturday volunteers (and there's also an unrelated phone banking event on Wed too)

    Our first major campaigning event we need to plan for is canvassing Tulip Fest during May 10th and 11th. At Tulip Fest we will be registering voters, signing up new Obama volunteers and getting the word out about the local movement for Barack here in Albany.

    We will plan for Tulip Fest during this chapter meeting. As well, we need to begin to plan our calendar stretching through August, figuring out where we should be going to reach out to voters and register more democrats.

      ...to even the majority of HRC voters that Obama is the candidate (which should hopefully be within a week), then you can tap into the local democratic organization in your county and ask them how to volunteer... there must be some swing districts near you, where your help will be real valuable

  ...who desperately wants an Obama Presidency, what can I do?

  I can't contribute to the campaign, there is no GOTV effort in Toronto (if only!), and I can't really afford to make phone calls.

  I was thinking, perhaps somewhat idealistically, that come November I'd take time off work and head down to a nearby swing state (OH, PA?) and canvass like a mofo.

  Any suggestions in the meantime?
