Recently I who am a member of a group on Democrats.org was like other members subjected to a series of emails designed to garner support for a Hillary write in campaign, and barring that threaten us and the Party with switching their vote to McCain. While I have little time for these threats, I do feel that they must be answered.
The following (Hillary Supporter) statements were taken from various posters in that group over just the last couple days. WeDems answers follows each of those statements.
Hillary Supporter – "I guess the arrogance that is Obama's trademark also spills over onto his supporters. Obama is the PRESUMPTIVE nominee. He has not been formally nominated--that may nor many not happen at the national convention in Denver. Hillary, by the way, has not dropped out of the race--she suspended her race."
WeDems Answer- "The way to continue our fight now, to accomplish the goals for which we stand, is to take our energy, our passion, our strength and do all we can to help elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States," is what Hillary said at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. when she ended her campaign with an unequivocal endorsement of her rival. What don’t you people understand? Regardless of your childish behavior Barack Obama is our candidate. And your acting like a kid who doesn’t get his way and grabs his ball and heads for home just so none of the others can play the game, doesn’t speak well of Hillary supporters.
Hillary Supporter – Many of us who refuse to support Obama, the DNC, or the Democratic Party in general, are doing so because none of them stand for what we believe any longer. The Democratic Party is no longer the party of the people. Howard Dean and Donna Brazile have single-handedly ruined that notion. And the DNC's Rules and Bylaws Committee breaking its own rules to make sure Obama got the presumptive nomination was the last straw in this twisted and vile campaign that has managed to split the party in half--possibly permanently.
WeDems Answer- "Clinton said the Democratic Party was like a family, and "it's now time to restore the ties that bind us together and to come together around the ideals we share, the values we cherish and the country we love."" Hillary is a gracious lady who understands America’s political system, she understands unity, and not division is what will change America. She urged her supporters not to think "if only" or "what if." "Don't go there," she said. "Every moment wasted looking back keeps us from moving forward."
But that is exactly what narrow minded people like those who make dire threats about leaving the party and reviving Hillary’s campaign with a write in vote are doing, wasting time looking back, and saying "what if".
Hillary Supporter – "Washington trying to boil all the hope out of him." How arrogant is that? George W. Bush is the one who substituted BELIEFS for FACTS, RELIGION for SCIENCE and IDEOLOGY for EXPERIENCE. Obama's attitude indicates more of the same. And he has less executive experience than GWB did when he declared for the presidency.
WeDems Answer – Arrogance I don’t think so, when any politician is elected to Washington, they are thoroughly indoctrinated into "How things work here" and repeatedly told "this is tradition", then they flood him/her with policy papers, position papers, and hundreds of lobbyists vie for their time, time that should be spent doing their job for which they were elected. Yes, it’s designed to boil the hope out of anyone, designed to make the new comers toe the line. As for experience we have seen what a long line of "experienced" administrators have brought to the office of President of the United States, and we are in the mess we are in now because of them. GWB is not only irrelevant but has never been the force behind the Republican Administration, people like Cheney and Rove have made the decisions and Bush has been their mouth piece, Barack Obama refuses to be put into that category or position.
Hillary Supporter – "Obama's not used to having to run against a real opponent."
WeDems Answer – Now this my friends is true arrogance. What are you saying that Hillary wasn’t a real opponent? My lord you amaze me.
Hillary Supporter – "Make no mistake, the democrats are part and parcel to the nonsense that has enveloped the country. They betray those they are supposed to seve, they talk out about opposing Bush then turn around and vote down the line for his agenda. The only way there will be change is if the party loses the election. Voting Obama is voting for the agenda of his supporters."
WeDems Answer – If by some outside miracle you (write-in advocates) receive even 1% of the vote and do derail a Democratic Presidency, then you deserve what you have wrought. 64% of McCain’s tax cuts will go to the top 1% of taxpayers, (some of those don’t even pay taxes). Most of those who accepted Hillary as their candidate and believed she would be an amazing leader and President will continue to follow her and do as she asks and vote for Obama. There are far more who will be voting for Obama and will not allow the Republicans to have another 8 years than there are the (write-in nuts).
Conclusion – Although Obama was not my original choice for President, I am not so dumb as to think that casting a vote against him or the Party will save America. A lot of what I see and hear on this group site comes down to "what is in it for me if I vote for Obama" these are the people who either never listen to JFK’s most famous quote ("Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" JFK), or really don’t give a damn about this country.
