I have been thinking about this for a long time (and mentioned it here a few times previously with a lukewarm response,) and in reading about all the places around the world that Al Gore is taking the truthful message about climate change and advocating for it, I hereby petition Al Gore to be our Global Environmental Ambassador. A new story about where he is going this week and why I believe he is the man on this issue for our time is below.

Progressives for Gore
OK, this is a strange story all around regarding the row over scheduling...
At the link here however, you can read the pdf invitation to meet Al Gore at this event. This event regards sustainability and preserving the beauty of Israel. Mr. Gore I hope will also use this opportunity to speak about climate change as well.

Article about the row it caused, but fortunately, it hasn't dampened the response.
Jewish Leaders Split Over Timing of Gore Fundraiser
Jewish leaders split over timing of Al Gore fund-raiser
By Linda Morris /Religious Affairs Reporter
November 4, 2005
A former US vice-president is at the centre of a row that has divided Sydney Jews and prompted a prominent Jewish property developer, Harry Triguboff, to warn of the dangers of a "civil war". Some NSW Jewish leaders are refusing to attend a fund-raising appeal organised by the Jewish National Fund and headlined by the one-time presidential candidate Al Gore.
The protest has been sparked by a clash in the dates of the communal calendar established 30 years ago to stagger the fund-raising efforts of Jewish community charities in Sydney. The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, representing 63 organisations, co-ordinates the calendar. It says the promotion of the Gore function clashes with the period set aside for the Emanuel School to conduct its one-off capital appeal. The Jewish National Fund maintains that the timing of the Gore event, to be held on November 7, was governed by Mr Gore's availability - he is in Sydney for a conference on superannuation - and falls within its allotted fund-raising period.
In a statement to the Australian Jewish News, Mr Triguboff condemned the row as counterproductive.
"We must all stand united and not score points against each other," he said. "A civil war is not what we need. We need peace in Israel and we definitely need peace here." Vic Alhadeff, the chief executive officer of the Jewish Board of Deputies, said the communal calendar had been established to prevent conflicts. He said the Board of Deputies strongly endorsed the work of the Jewish National Fund.
"The president of the Board of Deputies is routinely invited to a range of functions in the Jewish community, and the Board of Deputies only lends its support to events which operate within the framework of the communal calendar which it administers," he said. "As the roof-body of the NSW Jewry, the Board of Deputies will be sending a warm message of welcome to Al Gore - who has a proud record of support for the Jewish community and Israel - on behalf of the Jewish community of this state."
In any event, the row does not appear to have affected the Gore fund-raiser, with the Jewish National Fund claiming the 1000-seat event is sold out.

Oh, and in case some of you reading this are unfamiliar with superannuation, here it it:
superannuation
So far to my knowledge, Al Gore has travelled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and now Australia in the cause of the environment and to speak truth about climate change. He is well respected throughout the world as every invitiation to an environmental event tells us, and because of his stature and vast knowledge of this crucial subject, he can relay important information regarding it to people in terms they also can understand, which is very important considering so many are in the dark about this topic and how it truly effects their lives. His background in foreign relations, the economy, and in governing makes him more than qualified to lead our world as a Global Environmental Ambassador.
Therefore, I will be drafting a letter and petitioning Kofi Annan of the United Nations to consider a position of this nature and to consider Al Gore as its esteemed leader. For climate change is the issue of the 21st Century, and Al Gore is the only man who can bring this world together to fight it.
Also, I do believe that Mr. Gore fully understands and realizes that all other issues are effected by the environment, including war. Stronger storms caused by climate change ruin crops, erode land, and cause damage that can severely stifle an economy, which Hurricane Katrina already proved right here in America. Diseases caused by changing weather patterns that bring unknown diseases to areas which have not experienced them before cause health crisis which also effect the economy. The depletion of natural resources due to weather conditions which cause famine (as we are seeing in Niger and many African countries right now,) drought, floods, mudslides, etc. can also lead to corporate privitisation of those resources, which then effects the very livelihoods and lives of those under the control of corporations and governments that would seek to use such conditions to their political advantage, which leads to war.
The position of Global Environmental Ambassador would then be no small post. This post would be a huge responsibility combining knowledge, experience, and commitment to all areas into this one job. Having a unique understanding of government, foreign relations, the environment, and especially technological advances, is in my view the perfect combination for such an esteemed position. He also sees the spiritual side to this issue which is the essence of it, which is also very important to many cultures around the world, including people like myself right here. We will also need a leader on this issue that can unite the world to one common cause. He can do it.
I will also then be posting a petition to that effect here within the next week for the people to sign which I would then send to the United Nations along with my letter and petition. If you then care about the world's environment and in working with the world to secure a more sustainable future, then I plead with you to sign it to petition this great man to consider such a position should it materialize and be offered to him.
Oh, and to those who believe this will put a crimp in their political plans and petitions, the Presidential Diebold election of 2008 is still three years away. If Al Gore would ever decide to take a step back and run, I can surmise that wouldn't happen until at least the beginning of 2007. Right now, I believe we need to be thinking more globally. So how about we out here work on some way of getting started on truly doing something together to work to change this world for the better.
A successful campaign to see the Honorable Al Gore Jr., our VP and Peoples' President as Global Environmental Ambassador would in my mind be a most fitting tribute as well to a man who has been relentless in his advocacy for the people of the world and for our only home.
Please consider this, and if you wish to, please also recommend this diary to get this idea out to more people.
I can't think of a better way for us to start the work we must do together to preserve this beautful planet.
Thank you.
