I'll admit, I haven't been following the stories about the possible confirmation of Alberto Gonzales very closely. I do know enough, however, to figure out why so many would oppose him.
In addition to the many congressional Democrats and many in the left blogosphere who oppose his nomination, there were a number of former high-ranking military officials that opposed Gonzales being Attorney General. Among them were Gens. Shalikashvili and Kennedy and Gen. McPeak of the Air Force.
And what has chickenhawk Sen. John Cornyn of Texas called them? He says they are the "political insurgency," likening them to America's enemies in Iraq. Kudos to Mark Kleiman's latest post for pointing this out.
Does anyone else find this as outrageous, yet sadly typical, as I do?
