Hopefully that title got your attention.
As many of you know, the fascist 527s are readying their post-convention smear that Obama supports American women who "kill little babies."
The coming attack is one which the Obama camp needs to be readying. The attack is coming, it will be especially vicious, and Obama must be ready to act like a guy from south Chicago.
Sam Stein at the Huffington Post has the skinny:
The [infanticide] issue stems from a state version of the federal Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which proposed that any "viable" fetus surviving a late-term abortion receive sustaining medical care.
You see, Barack Obama voted against an Illinois bill some years ago that called for protection of aborted babies that were nevertheless born alive. Obama voted against the bill, not because he wanted little babies killed, of course, but because the bill did not immunize doctors from legal prosecution. You know, doctors that performed abortions would go to prison if the Illinois law were passed.
Truth has no value to the fascist right, and so the lines are drawn. The fascists are gearing up for the Obama version of Kerry swiftboating. The right wing mouthpiece, Pat Buchanan, has set forth the coming mad dog attack:
"Barack Obama on the issue of life is further left than anybody in the Congress of the United States. He not only pro abortion but pro-abortion on demand, he is pro-late term abortion, pro-partial birth abortion, he objected to the Supreme Court ruling that upheld the ban. But most important, Barack Obama and the Illinois legislature supported, or rather opposed a bill that would have protected the life of babies born from a botched abortion who were alive, three times."
Obama must prepare a forceful response now before the smear is published (and certainly before the meme takes hold).
So what is the correct response?
I suggest something along the lines of chrismorgan's thrust:
"And I don't support putting women, doctors and nurses in prison [for abortion] because they violate my religous views. That's what al-Quaeda and the Taliban do."
If the fascists want to play "abortion," then Obama needs to get tough. Obama must talk about how McCain wants to put women in prison (along with their doctors) if they have an abortion.
The counter-attack -- whatever it may be -- must be succinct, direct, and drive a stake in the hearts of the swiftboaters.
It is not enough, in my view, to simply talk about how we all want to decrease the numbers of abortions (through humane policies). The fall campaign is almost upon us, and Obama must prepare for infanticide because infanticide is coming.
Make McCain come out publicly on his abortion position. Will women who have abortions (and their doctors) be subject to prison, or not? Go ahead a let McCain say "state's rights" -- even that will allow Obama to destroy any republican female vote.
The unpleasantness is coming. And that right soon. When a bully shows his face and starts a fight, punch him in the nose.
Hard.
