John McCain is a Genuine American Hero (GAH). Let's see whether any lesser mortals have survived Five Years in Captivity (FYC).
Well, there was that one guy in Lebanon.

After 5 years in captivity (FYC), what is Terry Waite doing now?
Half of the year, Waite gives lectures and writes about terrorism and his experiences as both a negotiator and captive. The other half he devotes to international charity work.
And there was that other guy in Lebanon:

What's Terry Anderson doing lately?
He has written a best selling memoir of his experience as a hostage, entitled Den of Lions. He filed suit against the Iranian government for his captivity, and in 2002 was awarded a multimillion dollar settlement from frozen Iranian assets. . . With some of his settlement, Anderson and actress Kieu Chinh co-founded the Vietnam Children's Fund, which has built schools in Vietnam attended by more than 12,000 students. He also created the Father Lawrence Jenco Foundation with a $100,000 endowment to honor and support people who do charitable and community service projects in Appalachia.
There were also some people in Colombia:

Clearly they have not yet had the opportunity to accomplish great things as a result of their years in captivity (YC).
But I dare you to name anyone other than John McCain who survived Five Years in Captivity (FYC) and is a Genuine American Hero (GAH) and deserves to be nominated for the Presidency and has something like 8 houses and a blonde wife 17 years his junior.
