Tomorrow Patty Wetterling is going to announce that she is again seeking the 6th District in Minnesota, the
Star Tribune reports.
Patty Wetterling, who dropped out of the U.S. Senate race last month, will announce Friday that she is running for Congress in the 6th Congressional District, a rival said.
Democratic congressional candidate Elwyn Tinklenberg told The Associated Press Thursday that Wetterling informed him that she has decided to run against him.
Then wastes no time in providing damaging quotes. (extended)
This is not a Strib staff reporter. It's some AP guy.
Tinklenberg said he told Wetterling he was disappointed in her decision, because, he said, she had previously assured him she would not run for the seat.
"I told her that my wife and I decided to do this only after visiting her and her husband and being assured she would run for Senate, and that she would not run for the 6th," he said "And she was very encouraging for me to get in the race."
He also reminded Wetterling that when she announced she was leaving the Senate race, she stressed the need to unite the party's efforts.
"I said, 'That makes it hard to explain why you would get into 6th District race, when you turn the race and party into this kind of battle,"' he said.
Tinklenberg said he was "absolutely" staying in the race.
I'm not too impressed with the campaign manager, who declined to comment. They let a negative story come out the day before the announcement, and by declining to comment you're already on the defensive. And it's really bad management when your OPPONENT announces your candidacy for you.
At least this is early enough to be old news long before the election...plus there's a 4-way for the Republican primary.
