Middle of the night here. There has been a lot of talk today about the internal kos culture - at the same time that blogs are getting hammered by the corporate media, who are using their old tactics of innuendo, omission of facts and reality, using the poorest choices for commentary. The corporate media is lambasting blogs aka citizens for telling the corporate media to move over, shut up, we will figure out what the truth is on our own. This strikes me as a key time for us to work together so we can subvert the corporate media's attempt to disempower the citizenry.
Fun reading after the jump....
Now, I can't bludgeon the whore corporate media and effect any noticeable change tonight. But I can address ths blog's dialogue about alleged personality cults that subvert the real issues.
That said, I looked around at some of the diaries that didn't stay on the mainpage for long as that was a main issue in some of the internal discussions.
Et voila, I found a great diary, posted by CJB, which is her sister's written response to a survey by Pelosi. Oh, and Pelosi's request for a donation, secondary motivation I am sure.
I highly recommend this diary:
Angry American v. Pelosi: round one by CJB's sis aka Dinky
TOP statement: Usually, after a fund raising drive, I receive a form letter thanking me for my support. I would like to suggest that this year the Democratic leadership turn this around. This year let's see if the leadership can lead. If this occurs I will be the first to send my letter thanking you for your support in making my life and the life of those in my community and across the nation a little bit better. Yes, a check will be enclosed.
And this is why I am here - for the issues that Dinky laid out better than I have seen in years.
Right now the blogosphere is gaining credibility... and the powers that be are want to put a lid on that noise. We need to stand together and focus on the issues that matter and stop the in-fighting. Even if some of the issues we argue about are valid, they are not in the league of horrors that we face in this nation.
Peace!
****Update: just a little tidbit on why I think the corporate media is trying to minimize, diminish, and disempower blogs (aka the citienry).
Here is one quote in a WaPo article about Gannon. It’s a good article. It’s informative. It pretty much outlines Americablog’s story. Fair and balanced, right? Nope, they pulled this obscure quote from wonkette, which, we all know, is a comedic site. Yes, she definitely hits real issues… but wonkette is a good example of a blog that is well-known. But think of all the strictly serious minded blogs out there! WaPo goes with a quote from Wonkette? I take issue with that, even if they admit her site is satire:

Quote attributed to Wonkette: Ana Marie Cox, who has been joking about the Gannon photos on her satirical site, wonkette.com, said they are creating a buzz because "obviously pictures of naked people are titillating." But, she added, "bloggers are wrong to bring that into the mix of things of why he shouldn't be a White House correspondent. Aren't we bloggers in favor of a lower bar of access, not a higher one?
