This dairy is prompted by a response to diary by BigDog04. His diary was called "Candidates That Don't Pay Their Bills ..." it spoke to a real issue. That of the under-funded progressive campaign, and the lingering, often unpaid debts they incur, particularly to small vendors.
Somewhere down the thread of comments to that diary bubbanomics had a good idea - how about telling us which campaigns are in debt?
So, I did tell them, well, at least I did for all Democratic '07-08 campaigns. The data - freely found at FEC of course - was illuminating.
The entire data-set I found in response to bubbanomics request is found at this published Google Document. Remember, that document is simply a snapshot. Financial health and obligations may change as late arriving bills are recorded, or some donations are returned.
In a way, that brings us to the point of the original diary by BigDog04, is there a means to coordinate activity and help pay off the debts of one campaign through the superfluity of another?
Certainly, the snapshot of health afforded by the FEC search suggests that this is a valid goal - the campaign committees sit with (as far as I can tell) $200 Million in collective positive cash.
Suggestions? Ideas? Corrections?
Have at it.
