Let me push forward the following as an amendment to the Constitution:
No member of Congress shall hold a position with the Legislative Branch after reaching the age of 75. This amendment will take effect one month after being ratified by three-quarters of the states.
I've long been dissatisfied with stagnation in Congress. This story in USA Today pushed me to write this proposal. I simply don't want rickety old farts in charge of my future. I believe that the most concentrated group incompetent or petulant members of Congress are found at this age. Yes, there are exceptions to this. But I like the new blood concept a whole lot.
I don't just want these elderly members to resign their seats from Congress. I don't want them working in any part of Congress. If they are so valuable, let them become philanthropists, lobbyists, ambassadors or let them sign on with Habitat for Humanity.
I'd like to open the floor for discussion. Key topics would include: wording of the amendment as well as sentiments of the members of Congress (HA) and the public.
