You'd think this was straight out of the Onion, or perhaps that most accurate of supermarket newspapers, the Weekly World News
Despite seeing it on the Ha'Aretz website, I still think it must be some sort of elaborate prank. Either that or the Lizard People really have taken over the country. Or (and this is probably the most reasonable option) conservatives are outrageously crazy.
From HaAretz via The Associated Press:
The Ohio man, who became famous during the U.S. presidential campaign after asking Barack Obama about his tax plan, is heading to Israel as a war correspondent for a conservative Web site called pjtv.com.
PJTV.com is "Pajamas TV", a subsidiary of "Pajamas Media," which many of us have probably heard of (if not, Google it)
I guess his country music album didn't work out.
So, what's he going to do in Israel, after the week or so it takes him to locate it on a map.
Wurzelbacher says he'll spend 10 days covering the fighting and explaining why Israeli forces are mounting attacks against Hamas.
He tells WNWO-TV in Toledo that he wants go over there and let their 'Average Joes' share their story.
Of course, perhaps I'm being a bit too harsh on ol' Joe. After all, the man has tons of knowledge and experience when it comes to Israel. Remember this moment of brilliance on the campaign trail?
When the McCain supporter asked him if he believed "a vote for Obama is a vote for the death of Israel," Mr. Wurzelbacher replied, "I'll go ahead and agree with you on that." He didn't elaborate on how Mr. Obama, who has said his commitment to Israeli security is "nonnegotiable," would be bad for the Jewish state.
McCain aides told Fox News that the candidate doesn't share Mr. Wurzelbacher's opinion on Mr. Obama's view toward Israel.
So bad that even Fox News wouldn't go for his points.
Of course, what's really funny is that Joe is now heading to a country that really does "spread the wealth," and for that matter, is perhaps quasi-socialist, even given the recent privatization.
I mean, seriously, Israel is so far to the left on economic issues than even the Likud has a wing in the Histradut (Israel's umbrella trade union organization)
Let's close this diary out with video of what was probably the most entertaining "Joe the Plumber" moment of the campaign.
