IHT: UN knows Palestinians have fired rockets from UN schools
Just over a year ago, the UN acknowledged that Palestinian terrorists fired rockets and mortars from UN schools, as was reported in the International Herald Tribune.
The United Nations is very disturbed about an incident last month in which Gaza militants fired mortar shells from a U.N. school and will open an investigation.
I guess the big question, then, is why isn't the UN acknowledging this today? Israel, in defense of its bombing, stated that Hamas was firing rockets from outside the school (as we all know, Israel bombed outside the school, not the school itself). The UN is acting like Israel is making this up to defend killing kids at a school. But the UN already knows that Palestinian terrorists do this kind of thing. Palestinians use civilian areas that will generate the most worldwide sympathy to stage their rocket-firing, knowing that if Israel responds, mass casualties will evoke the world's ire. This is especially true of a school, as the news reports are showing.
If the UN wanted to be a serious broker in the Middle East, it would come out and say, "Israel may be telling the truth. Palestinian terrorists have in fact fired from our schools in the past. We will investigate before passing judgment on the Israeli bombing." Since the UN is not admitting to this today, and is instead bashing Israel at every angle, the UN is being disingenuous and needs to be called on it.
