It's been a long hard road the last eight years.
But, at noon on January 20th, all that will change. In less than two weeks, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States.
Wooohoooo! Everyone come to D.C. There's gonna be a Partay!!!!!!!!
But...over the next 4 years, when Republicans cry that the stinking libruls are messing up Amerika, remember the travesties that have been visited upon the country by the Republicans and Bush.
Remember these things and slam them back in their faces. Remember stolen elections and misplaced patriotism.
Remember.
On his first day in office, Bush moved to block federal aid to foreign groups that offered counseling or any other assistance to women in obtaining abortions.
Remember that on January 29th 2001, nine days after taking office and in a tip of the hat to the religious right, Bush created an office, The White House Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives, to help faith based organizations receive millions in federal dollars though contracts to provide social services.
Don't forget about the $125 billion dollar surplus we had in 2001:
When the Bush Administration issued its budget on April 9, 2001, it predicted a budget surplus outside Social Security of $125 billion for fiscal year 2001, which at that time was six months complete.(1) Now, four months later, the predicted $125 billion surplus has practically disappeared. How did this happen? The quick answer is that the recently enacted tax-cut reduced revenues by $74 billion in 2001 and the economy slowed significantly, so that revenue collections fell below predicted levels. (See Table 1.)
and 1.2 trillion dollar deficit Bush has left us.
The federal budget deficit will nearly triple to an unprecedented $1.2 trillion for the 2009 budget year, according to grim new Congressional Budget Office figures.
Remember that members of the Repugnant Party insist on calling the Democratic Party the Democrat Party.
Remember that on August 6th, while lounging at his Crawford, TX ranch on a month long vacation, Bush dismissed dire warnings he received in the Presidential Daily Briefing of an imminent attack, possibly by plane on a US city, by OSAMA BIN FRICKING LADEN.
Remember that after 911, the entire world stood as one, in solidarity with the United States in our time of great sorrow and anger.
Don't forget that a year and a half later, Bush lead the United States into a war based on lies, a quagmire that thus far has killed almost 100,000 Iraqi citizens and 4221 US dead as of January 5th, 2009.
Torture.
Hate.
Indifference.
Lies.
Think about the utter smugness of Rove, Bush, Cheney, and every other right wing extremist when they won again in 2004.
Remember the pillaging of environmental laws and regulations designed to protect our world and all the occupants of it.
Remember these and other egregious violations of the rule of law every time the Republican Party tries to pin the deficit and deficit spending on Obama and Congressional Democrats. Remember when the 2010 midterms start to heat up, how like a cancer, Republican policy metastasized into a full blown depression, accelerated climate change and the loss of countless lives.
Add your own example of something you'll remember from the last eight years, but remember this one last fuck you from the Bushies and the Republican Party to Barack Obama and the Democratic Party.
Protocol states that the President-elect stays at Blair House, the historic official residence for Presidential visitors, in the days leading up to the Inauguration.
Obama had requested to begin his stay at Blair House prior to Monday, January 5th, the day Sasha and Malia started school. The Bush administration, through Laura Bush's spokeswoman, denied this request, stating the home "is not available and won't be available until January 15."
Reports have been swirling around Washington wondering who or what is so important that Obama's request could not be granted.
The Washington Post reported two days ago that the reason is John Howard, the former Australian Prime Minister will be staying for a night:
Howard and his entourage will be bunking at Blair House on Jan. 12, the night before he, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe are to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Bush, said Sally McDonough, a spokeswoman for first lady Laura Bush.
Blair and Uribe also were invited to stay at Blair House, but declined Bush's invitation, a second White House official said today.
Howard couldn't stay at one of the fine hotels in DC to allow the President-Elect to stay at Blair House? Wow. How very petty, even for you Mr. Bush.
Thanks for your stewardship of the country and your cordiality, Mr. Bush. Thanks for nothing.
