Yeah, those were his very first words at this afternoon's press conference, following his impeachment by the IL House.
Is that what you would call Freudian slip or what?
He talked about how he "pushed and prodded the House" pass progressive legislation.
"The House failed to act." Therefore, he says, they were gunning for him.
He went on to say that he was being impeached for advocating importing meds from Canada. WTF?
"Is that an impeachable offense?"
He went on to talk about the Pink Potluck Program to help women without insurance who would be screened for breast cancer. The "only one of its kind in America. The House would not act on it, we found a way, and I ask you is that an impeachable offense?"
I'm reminded of Al Capone who, in his heyday, was (or believed he was) beloved by the people of Chicago for his "good works."
Is Blago trying to taint the jury pool? Is he trying to blunt the political forces that will press for his conviction in the Senate? Time will tell.
UPDATE: "I have a job to do, to fight for the people of Illinois. If I don't do it, we'll be worse off. The legislature should fight for families, not fight to convict me instead."
UPDATE: He quotes Teddy Kennedy quoting Tennyson (at the 1980 DNC): "To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
UPDATE: If someone has a version of video we can embed here, please post it in the comments. Thanks.
