Alternative title
I am a crazy left wing purist...apparently.
I have read a number of diaries and comments about how radical the Daily Kos is and how we shouldn't demand too much from the Democratic Party as what we require might lose us the next election.
Looking at the last 8 years of lunacy and the Republican control of congress from 1994 to 2006 it bothers me that for some reason we must reach out to the Republican Party to ensure our victory.
This is the same Republican party that:
-Left us wide open on 9-11
-Expanded the executive powers of the President beyond all common sense.
-Gave us the neoconservative world vision of American Imperialism and the so called Bush Doctrine.
-Allowed Bin Laden to escape.
-Threw us blindly into Iraq using the doctrine of preemption.
-Forgot about Afghanistan.
-Forgot about the Israel/Palestine situation.
-Gave us torture and extraordinary rendition and the rebuttal of Habeas Corpus in Gitmo and Abu Ghraib, and had the Europeans up in arms by covert CIA flights.
-Left millions without Health Insurance.
-Allowed our economy to be outsourced.
-Ruined our budget and compounded the debt.
-Allowed the Banks/Wall St to go unmonitored and unregulated.
-Trashed the constitution.
-Invaded our privacy without oversight.
-Tried to scare us half to death to win in 2004.
-Gave us so many scandals its hard to remember Abramhoff and the I'm not gay farces.
-Mocked FEMA with the appointment of Brownie and then we had Katrina.
-Left the poor behind with tax cuts for the rich that did nothing to help the economy.
-Decided that the environment did not matter and wanted to drill and mine everywhere.
-Tried to bring Intelligent design into academia.
-Tried to demonise women who had abortions without any consideration as to the whys and wherefores just a generalisation that we must all be evil
-Tried to erode the division between Church and State.
The worst thing of all
They managed to change the way Americans look at the world into a simplified
Good or Evil/ black and white viewpoint
Come to think of it, maybe they just finished the job.
When I say NO to these policies.
When I say I cannot deal with these lunatics
It is I that is being a left wing purist?
If I say:
That Universal Health Care is an absolute must, as it is in every western democracy.
That education is a priority and should be affordable for all, and that Christian theories have no place at all in science.
We should get out of Iraq and Afghanistan now.
That the Israel /Palestine conflict is the source of terrorism and needs to be settled right now.
That the military budget is an embarrassment to a civilised democracy, and a half of this should be transferred to upgrading the infrastructure.
That the environment needs protecting and greenhouse emissions reduced.
That the financial system must have independent oversight.
That the constitution must be upheld in all its aspects.
Are not negotiable and I couldn't give a shit what the the Republican party says, those republicans intelligent enough will come on board anyway.
It is I that is being radical/socialist?
Well call me radical
I cannot set the bar for the next 4-8 years any lower than that. So instead of worrying about the next election, how about we just do the minimum and then see what happens. I would say if we start worrying what the Republicans think, then we will most certainly lose the House in 2010.
We must consider what won the election for the Democratic Party and expand upon those winning principles, and not bend before the onslaught of the disingenuous and obstructionist Republican Party at every turn.
