WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
Tonight was supposed to be paxpdx's turn, but she found herself with an unexpected free evening and a friend in town, and asked to be excused. She'll be filling in for me on Valentine's Day, when I'm going to be busy.
Sorry I missed last week's edition. I was doing a real-life version of WYFP? when a coworker and friend wanted to go out for a beer...which turned into three or four, and next thing you knew, it was 11 p.m.
I went back to the office this past week after a lovely two-week break--and of course, all manner of things had piled up while I was gone. Also of course, things that people had promised they'd have for me the very first thing on Monday morning when we got back didn't show up until Tuesday...or Wednesday...or Thursday. One of my faculty members got quite piqued when he couldn't get hold of me when he wanted to talk to me; funny how he never said a word of apology when he failed to have the materials ready that he'd promised he would have. Though I'll give him credit: when he found out how much is already on my desk to get done this month, he did say that he thought my boss should hire someone to help me out.
But my petty worries pale in comparison to some that are worrying other members of our community. Killer of Sacred Cows has just learned that his dad probably only has another week or two to live. And BFSkinner is having another medical problem that may mean he's looking at some serious consequences in the short term, too. Meanwhile, western Europe is in the deep freeze and the Russians have turned off the gas until Monday--they hope. The situation in Gaza is going nowhere good in a very big hurry. And here at home, we've still got ten days left in the term of the Worst. President. Ever. I wish I could say I felt confident that he wasn't going to use those ten days to do a few more incredibly stupid things, but I don't much like the odds on that bet. That puts my issues in broader perspective.
So: What's on your mind tonight?
