Holy Jesus Tap Dancing Christ! Morning Joe pissed me off a few minutes ago (as it has done everytime I watch it). First off, Joe talked about how much actionable intel we've gathered from "enhanced interrogation techniques" while Pat "I'm a jackass" Buchanan agreed. Then Joe the raving village idiot madman tried to win an argument with Christa the old fashioned republican way, by talking over her for a full three minutes.
They're scared.
They would not even concede the point that we should examine what we've done. Well Joe, if it was so successful, then what is your problem with taking a look at it? Pat and Joe defended waterboarding with the zeal of John McEnroe bitching about an out of bounds call.
They're scared.
They are so sure in their ideology, but I say, thou doth protest too much. I think they are quaking in their $700 boots.
Christa was sharp as a tack, and I wish she, or someone would have brought up the fact that we executed Japanese soldiers for the same "enhanced interrogation techniques" the rethugs now defend.
Joe, why were they war crimes then and not now? Oh, you say the threat is too great and our enemy isn't playing by the rules?
Do you think the Japanese were under less duress? Well, I guess I see your point. I mean, 4000 Americans died on 9/11. How could they understand anything of that magnitude? We only killed a couple hundred thousand of their civilians with atomic bombs. They had no right to torture our guys.
While Joe and Pat pissed me off to no end, there was also a silver lining. At this point, when everyone seems to be on board with shutting down GTMO and ending torture, they are still trying to sway public opinion in the other direction. Why?
They're scared.
They know it's wrong, and no matter how many times Joe says we got actionable intel, and that torture kept us safe for the past seven years, it doesn't make it true, but he'll try his damndest to make it so.
Why are they trying so hard?
They're scared.
They know that if W and Cheney go down, their party is kaput. As if it wasn't already in its death throws.
The most asinine comment Joe made this morning was his assertion that we think it's okay to kill, but not to torture. Way to miss the fucking point Joe. Capital punishment is wrong as well, but at least there exists a little fundamental tenet of our democracy known as due process. He suggested that soldiers were killing people because that was okay, and they knew that captured alive, they would be tortured, which teh libruls say is wrong. Way to support the troops you chickenhawk POS.
Alright, end rant. I just hope that these "evildoers" TM will find swift and fair justice.
- update - I was thinking some more about this, and I really wish that someone would stand up on television and say,
"even if we got good intel from torture, it is morally repugnant, and to participate in it, is to say that our ethics as a nation are on par with those of Stalin, Saddam, and Pol Pot.
