I used to think Harry Reid was spineless. Now I realize he's just an idiot.
I used to think he only picked battles he could win, regardless of the stakes. Now I realize he has no idea which battles he can win, so it is WAY TOO MUCH to expect him to know which battles are worth fighting.
Here are battles Harry Reid didn't fight:
- Warrantless wiretapping
- TARP regulation
- War Funding with conditions
- Torture
- Any battle against Unitary Executive Authority
- Senate subpoena Power
- Requiring that Dem committee leaders actually support the party (Lieberman)
Here are battles Harry Reid thinks are worth fighting:
- Roland Burris
- the battle to save Ted Stevens' reputation
Forget the fact that he can't win the two battles he's chosen. They aren't even the right battles.
Burris getting seated is a mistake. Any process that includes Blagojevich is tainted by his very presence and therefore it would be better not to have Mr. Burris. But he is one Senator from one state and probably reliably Democrat at that. It's not the end of the Republic if Burris is seated. I mean its not like it results in immoral behavior (torture, preemptive war) or massive fraud (TARP regulation, war spending) or threatens our very form of government (subpoena power, unitary executive).
One diary a day, so I guess I won't rail against Pelosi today, except to say she's not any better.
