In this underseen diary, published with about 90 minutes to spare in the Pacific time zone's Monday Night, Desmogblog highlights the tight race for the "Best Science Blog" award at the reader-voted Weblog Awards.
The race (as of my checking in at 12:37am Pacific) gave Watt's Up With That 37% and the lead over Pharyngula at 29%. Beyond those two, only 2007 winner Climate Audit (with 12%) is in double figures.
Why does this matter? Watt's Up With That is a climate change denier (CCD) site hyped by Limbaugh, Hannity, et. al., while Pharyngula is a site that deals with actual science, including, importantly scientifically valid secondary education in public schools - specifically focusing on countering attempts to get Intelligent Design inserted curricula across the country. The third place effort? Also a CCD site.
Given the voting thus far, I am heartily endorsing Pharyngula and encourage the rest of this community to do the same before 5pm EST, Jan 13.
UPDATE pre publication :)
The Best Middle East or Africa Blog category is in need of some attention, too.
Juan Cole's Informed Comment is running a distant second to a NeoCon effort (and 2007 winner) by Michael J. Totten. So another vote is in order
