In these days before Barack Obama is inaugurated the 44th president of the United States, many people are converging on Washington, DC. Among people of my acquaintance, much drinking will ensue (has ensued, is ensuing).
Which leads us to a question: What should people be drinking to honor and celebrate this occasion?
I'm gonna figure champagne will feature heavily. But surely we can get more creative than that. Living Liberally posted a contest for the "unofficial drink of the Obama presidency," with submissions like:
OBAMA MAMA: Vodka, Kahlua, Coconut Liquer, and Milk over ice.
OBAMA EXPRESS-O: Expresso, Vodka and Baileys.
WASHINGTON APPLE: Apple Pucker, Cranberry Juice, Sprite, and Crown Royal.
TEAM OF RIVALS: Kahlua, Cocoanut rum, Baileys, layered in shot glass.
OBAMA MAMA II: Vodka, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, Blue Curreco, Cherry Garnish.
HOPE FLOAT: Baileys, Butterschotch Schnapps, float Creme de Cocoa on top.
Via email, meanwhile, brownsox suggests the Blue Hawaii.
So what say you? Have you invented a drink recipe for the inauguration? What themes associated with Obama and his inauguration does it incorporate? How many proof? How bad a hangover will it produce? (Remember, it won't be fun for anyone if people in the crowd during the inauguration are puking on each other.)
Personally, I'm in the market for shot recipes to go into my brand-new Obama shot glass, so extra points for shot recipes -- but remember to get a full measure of hope and change in there...
Let the recipes begin.
