A few days ago I wrote a diary entry here:
http://www.dailykos.com/...
on how Persian (the language I'm currently studying) is not as difficult as some might think, and could be worth learning especially in the current environment given the importance of Iran and Afghanistan at the moment.
To do this, we would need two things:
- A large enough number of people interested in learning the language,
- At least one person that knows the language fairly well to keep an eye on the posts and make corrections / add notes here and there.
Besides that I would be able to write up all the posts myself since I'm learning the language at the moment and writing about a language is very good practice when studying something (first, because it forces you to make sure you know what you're talking about before you write about it, and second because if you're wrong somebody will be able to point that out to you whereas without writing it out for all to see you'd never realize that you were wrong).
So, for those that know the site better than I do, do you think a study group like this would be feasible? This would be a long-term project, with the goal of being able to more intelligently understand anything Iran/Afghanistan/Tajikistan/etc.-related. And how many people do you think should express interest before we consider starting?
