It tears me up to write this tonite when our focus should be on the historic event tomorrow, but Sam Adams forces my attention to a distressing situation.

You know I am tired to listening to politicians explain away blatant lies. Sam Adams new Mayor of Portland just announced today that he has been lying for years about a relationship with an 18 year old intern whom Adams met when the boy was 17.  Somehow I doubt Adams new story that nothing happened until the minor was of age, but that is what he wants us to believe now.

Of course two years ago Sam Adams wanted us to believe that the original accusation, 'is the worst kind of smear levelled at a gay man, that we can't be trusted with young people.'

Well guess what Sam Adams can't be trusted with young people, he can't be trusted to be truthful either, he will only say whatever it takes to win elections despite the facts.

People always say, it is not the sex, it is the lying. Damn it it is both. This was a child in a subordinate working relationship with Sam Adams as a city commissioner intern. Sam Adams had no business taking advantage of this subordinate and youth. Consenting or not Adams used his position of authority to seduce this youth.

The fact Clinton had an affair never bothered me, it did bother me that it was with an intern. Clinton was the subject of a partisan witch hunt, that is why I defend him to this day, but his actual actions were pretty indefensible in my eyes too.

But back to Adams:

Sam Adams blithely states he is going to regain our trust. Ha, that is just his newest lie, he needs to be run out of office and prosecuted for sexual harassment. I am not sure, but I bet city government has strict rules that would cause the termination of a civil servant sleeping with a subordinate even if they were full grown adults and not a youthful intern. These kind of rules should apply to elected officials as well. They should be held to the same standard of conduct the rest of us are, particularly those that work as civil servants.

Well I had to vent, and post this here to see what others are thinking. Contact Sam Adams and demand his resignation:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
