So, did I miss anything exciting last night?
And, to any NSA analysts who may be "lurking," lurk no more! Good good evening! If any thread of tonight's discussion tickles your fancy, jump on in with your comments. We really do endeavor to be a fun thoughtful group, and I endeavor to educate & entertain every night here!
Before going further, let us all remember this wise sage advice...
There are oodles of notable events for "this day in history"; it'll be hard to narrow down the list, but I'll try!
On Jan. 22, 1973, the Supreme Court handed down its Roe vs. Wade decision, which legalized abortion. This case is just one of many reminders of why this past POTUS election was SO IMPORTANT because President Obama could potentially pick at least a couple of SCOTUS justices.
The Arthur Miller drama "The Crucible" opened on Broadway on this date in 1953. Mr. Miller had been targeted by HUAC already. The first time I saw this play, I was in the midst of a big 'ol project about Senator "TailGunner Joe" McCarthy for my required history major class. To say it made an impression would be an understatement!
And, just one more notable on more of a "local" level, happy 81st birthday to Birch Bayh, former U.S. senator, D-IN! It's too bad his son, Evan, didn't inherit more of his dad's characteristics.
Let's Countdown!
#5 "Closing" AKA "The War on Error" AKA "Gone – Tanamo" - President Obama signed executive orders to close Gitmo within a year, to shut down "black sites," review of the cases currently at Gitmo, etc. Senator "Cornhole" Cornyn doesn’t want Gitmo detainees in Texas. He didn’t want Hillary Clinton to be Secretary of State, either, until he voted for her. John Murtha doesn’t have an issue with detainees in PA. George Mitchell hopes to work similar stuff in the Middle East that he did in Northern Ireland; I think the Middle East will be a tougher nut to crack. Seeing Richard Wolffe always makes me so awfully very happy [drool]! President Obama is also talking humanitarian & infrastructure ideas in Palestinian territories in addition to Israel’s security desires. There’s multi – tasking going on at the White House? WTF?! However, President Obama may not be doing much about eaves – dropping & domestic spying. I wonder if the NSA spied on him? I’d be willing to bet a shiny new dime they did. Major General Paul D. Eaton was a lucky son – of – a – gun to be a witness to such history today when that Gitmo executive order was signed! He needs to go tell "Cornhole" Cornyn a thing or 2...or 3... or 4. Other groups don’t think President Obama is moving fast enough & think following the AFM leaves too much to interpretation. Yes Keith, this Gitmo situation was absolutely avoidable; I knew that answer before General Eaton opened his mouth. From what I listened to on NPR today, another option could be something similar to military court marshals.
#4 "The Unforgiven" AKA "Bush’s Pardon Puzzlement" - DICK thinks Scooter Libby should’ve gotten a pardon. I get John Dean tonight, too?! And, he’s shocked that GWB didn’t roll out the pardons! HA! I FEEL VINDICATED! ;D I really thought there’d be so many pardons rolling out Tuesday morning the printer printing them off would burst into flames from over – heating. I have a hard time believing that GWB is worried about "political cost." If he was worried about that, we wouldn’t have had the last 8 years. There could be secret pardons?! Oh...f*ck... But, they wouldn’t be covered under international law. Okee – dokee... [insert sigh of relief here] I feel a little more better!
** That doggie was just north of where I live & pretty damn close to my neighborhood! Firefighters think Biscuit may have been hit by a car because he had some scratches & a hurt leg. Here’s a link to the story from the Indianapolis Star: http://www.indystar.com/... OK, if I had a winning lottery ticket, there would be no f*cking way I would let that sucker out of my sight! Mr. Bull Snort wants to be Paul Revere. I don’t think Paul was "into" falafel. A dumba$$ in AZ hid under a moving truck to escape the fuzz, and it ran over him – BRILLIANT! **
#3 "Uncle Sam is Watching You" AKA "Spying and Lying" AKA "New NSA Spying Claims" - The NSA didn’t have a lot to say to respond to what Russell Tice had to say yesterday. Credit card information & financial transactions were tapped into, too. All this may have been spurred on & helped along by the Defense Department.
#2 "Spying on Reporters" - James Risen of the New York Times knows he was spied on. He helped blow the whistle on the domestic spying to begin with. Hell yes, GWB’s "peeps" wanted & wants to try to frighten people into keeping their mouths shut! One wrong move or one wrong word or one wrong financial transaction, the NSA or whoever could declare you a "terrorist" or "enemy non – combatant" or whatever, & you are F*CKED!
StillBUSHED! "Gonzo – Gate" You can be indicted for cluelessness, Keith?! Hell, I can think of thousands that should get one, then. ;D Freddo got all – weepy – eyed at GWB’s farewell after he got a little smooch. "Halliburton – Gate" The electrocution death of a soldier taking a shower has been ruled negligent homicide. Maybe, THAT’S how we’ll get DICK in the GreyBar Hotel! "OTHER Aspect of Torture – Gate" One of the freed Gitmo inmates is suing the United States.
WPITW – John Gibson is on FAUX Radio now. I guess TV was even too beyond him. I hope "the comedian’s" head explodes very soon. And, we are all getting WAY TOO MUCH information about his "extra – curricular" activities! The CEO of Merrill Lynch handed out bonuses & redecorated his office suite with bail – out coin.
