Subject: Solis's Confirmation as Labor Secretary Delayed

The Republicans need Solis as Labor Secetary
like Madonna needs a chaperone for a date!

--------------------------------------------------------

take action -  Obama must be pressured to push Solis confirmation!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------

here are a few responses to the call:

(1) show the love, contact Obama, remind him how much you love Solis!

(2) pressure Obama to push Solis confirmation!

(3)  I went to the site and gave my input.
I do hope a ground swell of people contact the White House.

(4)   praise Obama's support for Solis, reach out to your
Republican Senators to support Solis and reach out
for Solis support among organizations, elected officials,
clergy leaders, but most importantly grass roots people.
We should show support for Hilda in as many ways as we can.
Get everyone on Facebook, peace groups, women's groups, &
labor to show support, - build support for the policies and people she represents!

Hilda Solis (James Ku SGVN/Staff)

...Solis is an original co-sponsor of the union organization legislation, which could prove to be one of the most contentious and partisan labor issues Congress and the Obama Administration face this year.

The measure would allow employees to form a union if a majority of employees sign a petition, without holding a secret-ballot election as is currently required...

?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

this diary is slightly incoherent and short on background.

For those who would like somewhat more explanation, I diaried yesterday the Republican foot-dragging on Solis, including an anonymous hold that was put on her confirmation.

Republicans may have decided to hold Solis hostage in an effort to horse-trade on the "fair pay equity" legislation (just passed) and proposed "card-check" legislation that would make it easier for workplaces to organize. Or maybe just because they wanted to rough up somebody.

As I also noted in that diary, a Bush-administration political appointee remains in charge of the Department of Labor until she is confirmed. That might also be a motivation.

  •  What? Pressure Obama to push to have his (0+ / 0-)

own appointment confirmed? Why not just mount a campaign to pressure the holdout republicans to confirm her? Isn't that a bit more logical? If you are going to pressure Obama, why not add Solis to the mix - pressure HER to try harder to get herself confirmed?

How refreshing to think that someone in the White House cares what we think!

They are sharpening their knives to destroy her anyway they can. She is too friendly to the workers! republicans (corporate tools) cannot have that!

Thanks for the post. I would not have written without your prodding.
