Our first priority is to just get rid of the Gitmo, period! It represents everything that is against American ideals. We weren’t supposed to be the North Korea, China and Russia of the world, where people are routinely rounded up, locked up, and keys are practically dispensed with, without any due process. This kind of behavior is quintessentially un-American. Therefore, kudos to President Obama for promising to shutdown the Gitmo, promptly and judiciously.
Of course, we have to deal with the prisoners that are currently being held their under inhumane conditions, regardless of their threat level, may they be the "worst of the worst," or not. Anyone, who is suggesting that we are just going to let them loose, must be out his or her mind, or trying to spread fear, which is exactly what the fear-mongers like Limbaugh, Hannity and O’Reilly are trying to achieve. Remember mushroom-clouds?
Regardless, we must move them out of the Gitmo and either charged them with a crime, and if necessary, we should hold their trials in a military tribunal, where rules and odds are heavily stacked against them, or release them. And at the very least, put them in proper prisons, with all the due process available to them that conforms with U.S. laws and Geneva Convention's accords. Even if they are to be incarcerated for life, or put to death, later.
I have a crazy idea, for those prisoners whom we must let go. What if we plant a chip with that has a GPS and an explosion device in their body or brain, in such a fashion that if someone try to remove it, it will explode. Also, we should have an option to have it explode remotely.
I know it is crazy, but we are living in 2009!
Actually, this could be a very beneficial to us. If they are the terrorists, then they would certainly lead us to their many secret locations and to some nifty intelligence, especially if the planted device could also transmit audio.
I suppose we could just offer them a choice: detention for life, or be implanted with our gadget?
And if the word gets out that they are planted with such a device, no cell or organization would want to work with them. Anyway, in this war with terrorism, they could be very useful to us, or just as useless to our enemies. Rest assured, they will not be harming us!
