How much does lighting cost the US annually in energy?
Almost 1/4 total household energy usage.
Compact fluorescent bulbs are nice, but I get the heebie jeebies about that nasty mercury.
If we're gonna break the back of energy consumption, seems we need to look at every area; not just better cars, or renewable resources, but better ways to utilize the energy we do produce, wherever it comes from.
How about these fine folks?
New CHEAP Super Efficient LED Lightbulbs
$3 a bulb, 100,000 hour life, no toxics... sounds like a plan to me. Why can't the US fully fund the research, buy everyone in the country 2 dozen bulbs, and slash energy consumption like crazy?
"if everyone replaced their current light bulbs, the proportion of lighting in electricity consumption would go down from 20 to 5 percent worldwide."
