Im going to blame it on another kossack, and his or her comment in the recent "BRUTAL Ad to Air Tomorrow: 'Are You With Obama or Limbaugh' " diary. Since I'm not sure whether it is polite to name someone without permission, I'll just say that the comment is near the top of the comment list. It says:
There's a new sheriff in town (40+ / 0-)
The new sheriff is a very nice, well spoken gentleman.
Oh by the way. He's an expert marksman.
Republicans don't remember "Walk softly and carry a big stick". Those who forget history are often struck by a big stick and wonder what hit them.
As it happens, I know quite a lot of African-American people. So in all (self-directed) honesty, I can't say that "all Black folk look alike to me." You can say it, if you like, but it's not true.
That said, I've been wondering if I'm the only person who finds himself thinking of the hero of the Mel Brooks film, Blazing Saddles, every once in a while when the POTUS appears on TV...
I'm not sure why thinking this makes me a bit uncomfortable.
I'm sure some of you will help me (by telling me why it should make me uncomfortable).
Others may find certain simularities playing on their mind, as well.
For example:
"Black Bart," played by Cleavon Little in the 1973 hit, was smarter by far than anyone else in the movie, was handsome, urbane and well-spoken.
He used humor to defuse bad situations, and as little violence as possible.
He was thick-skinned -- ignoring the townfolk's initial reaction to his appointment as sheriff -- until his dignity, courage, and diligence won them over.
He built a coalition of freed slaves, racist townspeople, and one of his former opponents to save the day.
He is one of my favorite movie heroes, and IMHO was for his time a good role model for young men -- a man who was strong but not macho, and who could make fun of himself.
Anyone out there have any thoughts on this? Am I a troll for mentioning it?
If you didn't see the movie, here is a picture of Obama next to one of Mr. Little as "Black Bart."
I don't think they look much alike.
But the hero of this movie sure reminds me of Obama...
