Nate from FiveThirtyEight brought up a good point about this and I want to see what you guys think.
As we all probably know by now, 60 is not really a "magic" number. Votes are rarely among partisan lines, so it's really not what it seems. However, the SYMBOLISM means Democrats have complete control. But as we know, because of DINOs, we may not be able to pass everything we want. So if we reach the "magic number" of 60 and still get obstructed because of DINOs, what will the public think? Probably that we can't get anything done, and they'll vote in more Republicans in 2010.
Another thing is that Judd Gregg is fairly moderate anyway, so it wouldn't exactly be a huge gain getting a Democrat to replace him. Not to even mention the rumors about how Lynch might actually appoint a Republican. Although it would make it much, much easier to win/hold in 2010, is it really worth the implication that the Democrats have total control when we really don't?
It will be much easier to ask the voters in 2010 to give us a Senate free of obstructionism when we're CLOSE to having the perception of one, than if we already (according to popular belief) have one.
Also, I don't really think Obama's cabinet needs a 3rd Republican. What do you guys think? I personally don't believe it's worth it, and we'll be getting our 60th seat and more in 2 years.
