I've been working on an odd project over the past couple of weeks -- since the day of the first weekly address, really. In this project, I translate Barack Obama's words into the form of Burma-shave jingles. I've been posting these on blogspot and Twitter. The first one was written for the first weekly address and went as follows:
Congress better
Move it fast
And get my
Stimulus
Bill passed
Obamarave
(Note to purists: I know there should be one fewer line. But the Burma-shave jingles were always divided into six signs including the refrain, so that's how I'm breaking it down.)
Here's another one, for the signing of the fair pay act:
The first bill I sign
is an open letter
to daughters
everywhere
from Lilly Ledbetter:
Equalify
You see where I'm going. Last night's press conference produced the following:
Press Conference (1)
The people didn't
Make this mess
But bankers'
Reckless
Greediness:
Barackdown
Press Conference (2)
We can't afford
To wait and see
If crisis
Becomes
Catastrophe
Barackolyptic
Press Conference (3: to Jennifer Loven)
It's not the truth
That brings us down
But the politics
That runs
This town
Nonononono
Press Conference (4: to Jake Tapper)
Metric 1, job creation
Metric 2, credit's back
Metric 3, housing markets
To get on
A proper track
Grownupsplease
It's becoming a minor obsession.
I'll be cross-posting Obamaburmashave over here, but if you want to follow them, I hope you'll do so on Twitter or my Obamaburmashave blog. In any event, let me know what you think.
