Though President Obama has performed masterfully in explaining the stimulus package to America and continues to have stellar approval ratings, we have to remain vigilant in order to pierce the din of misinformation the right wing continues to foster...
So earlier this morning I was at Burger King enjoying my breakfast and watching CNN on their HDTV when I hear two older men on the other side of the partition speaking to each other. I was only able to piecemeal their conversation but eventually their dialogue came through.
And now, K-Tel presents "The Best Worst of Right-Wing Talking Points"!
"You know that liberal talk show host, the one out of South Dakota, who thinks he's Rush Limbaugh? They gave him a press pass for the White House! He was in the front row! That press conference is for print media!"
Hmmm...I'm pretty sure Jeff Gannon wasn't exactly Edward R. Murrow. Well, maybe to his customers.
"And you know, I really don't know why anyone would vote for a Democrat. They tricked those Republicans, Snowe, Specter, Collins, into voting for this stimulus thing!
"It's socialism, pure and simple! And that's all there is to them!"
Believe me, as a Kossack, I'd have loved nothing more than to engage them but as I'm currently guests of two friends on a military base, discretion is the better part of valor.
In any case, this behavior is part and parcel of the agenda that Rush and his misinformers in the right-wing echo chamber are spouting off with. Falsehood after falsehood are presented as fact, as we all know, and this crowd eats it up like Sunday dinner, never once bothering to check the facts. To quote Roger Ebert regarding mindless films, "The audience is a passive receptor for mindless sensation." That quote rings true for the FOX Noise audience as well. Why examine the news for yourself when it can be spoon-fed through a right-wing filter? Then again, these people don't think that "fair and balanced" is code for "Republican Party propaganda".
As the President continues to press for the desperately needed changes we need to make to our country, the aforementioned Burger King men and others of their ilk in the media will continue to denigrate and denounce anything President Obama does. It's our job to fight back against this noise and to present a cogent, articulate, and reasoned response to this inanity. We have the power to remain on message and to forcefully denounce the vitriol and hateful attacks against policies and plans that will help get America back on track and humming along, working for and helping the middle class
and more. We're doing well, fellow Kossacks. But we're not ones to rest on our laurels. Let's keep it up and continue to speak for those without a voice.
