In kid oakland's classic 2006 post A Challenge to the Netroots, he identified one of the most important opportunities open to us as bloggers:
You see, CA-11 is just one of many, many local races that deserve this kind of coverage...this level of netroots involvement. SayNotoPombo has shown that one can have a big impact in a very short period of time. It's not too late to do the same thing with a Congressional or local race near you.
In fact, there's never been a better time to start or join a local political blog.
That's still true. My purpose here is to point out some local blogs here in New Jersey.
Blue Jersey covers all the Congressional races -- not to mention this year's critical races for Governor and the State Assembly, but there are also blogs focused at the district level. Blogs focused on Republicans Mike Ferguson and Jim Saxton created political pressure that led to their retirements. Following the 2008 elections, there are only five Republican Congressmen left in New Jersey.
Blog the Fifth looks at District 5 and Republican Scott Garrett.
Retire Garrett also looks at Scott Garrett.
Frank LoBiondo Record has just been started to keep an eye on District 2's Frank LoBiondo.
Do you know more district-level blogs in New Jersey? Can you start one for your district, wherever it is?
I'll leave the close to Kid Oakland on why you should do more than post at the big community blogs:
On the other hand, if you are looking to make an impact, if you are looking to build something that has a cumulative effect on your community, if you want to write where the netroots rubber hits the road: then I would argue building or contributing to a local blog like SayNotoPombo is the most significant thing you can do.
