A recent comment by gooderservice really got me thinking:
Governor Dean's presidential race was the first political contribution I ever made in my life. That says something (to me, anyway).
I think there is something unique about your first political donation. Below the jump, my personal story and and a poll to find out who took your donating virginity.
I'm 28 years old, and was raised by a conservative family. I didn't come around to liberalism until the 2000 election and the realization that Republicanism is built on, quite literally, made-up facts (thanks Paul Krugman!). I voted for Gore in 2000, but had zero inclination to enter the political arena at a level greater than voting. All that changed with John Edwards and the 2004 Primary campaign--I guess it was the eloquence and truth behind his "Two Americas" speech, but in July of 2003, I made a $50 donation to the campaign. Since then I've donated close to $4000 to various political causes, but the passion that Edwards stirred to turn me from a voter into a contributor still has a special place in my heart.
Please let us know who was your first, and don't hesitate to share your stories!*
*Obviously, poll options are limited, so I just guessed as to what I thought the most popular responses would be.
