Since the scandalous and scurrilous Sean Dolonas, NY Post cartoon was published Wednesday. Many people have discussed various ways to Boycott the NY Post or it's advertisers. Though I wouldn't tell someone one not to boycott the Post or it's advertisers. I must tell you as a New Yorker, that it wouldn't work. The NY Post is a big time money loser/propaganda machine for Murdoch's News Corporation. They don't care if it loses money.
Murdoch, through out his career, has notoriously kept afloat money losers, to carry out other strategic objectives. Let's face it. The Post is a nice right wing/rag mouth piece for him!
But to my, pleasant suprise, my parents already outfoxed Murdoch on this front (no pun indended), as you'll see later (in regards to protest/boycotts).
While I do support (and will) call advertisers, regarding the NY Post and Newscorporation. I have a much more simpler solution (if it hasn't already been mentioned. Just boycott any News Corporation owned programs, publications, movies, websites or portals. Lower ratings, means less and lower advertising rates (as we're also shaking down their sponsors).
You think this would be tough? Let me tell you all about a inspirational conversation I had with my parents yesterday, who pleasantly surprised me with their own meaningful personal Rupert Murchoch boycott.
I was in their kitchen, telling them how the election of Barack Obama, brought blacks and whites in America that much closer to shared goals, appreciation and understanding of each other. And how the NY post, was trying to throw a monkey wrench into that progress; by rekindling the race wars, through this racist cartoon.
I then proceeded to tell my parent's:
"Forget boycotting the NY Post. That's a money loser for Murdoch". "What we really need to do is boycott Murdoch entities such as our local channel 5, Fox affiliate (and all it's shows), Fox Cable, every Fox network TV show, The Wall Street Journal-Don't read it or buy it (or any other Dow Jones publication, any 20th Century Fox movie (including my beloved Star Wars) and yes, even MYSPACE (Go to Face Book)!".
I continued to tell my parents:
"whether or not the NY post or it's editor apologizes (they responded with a half hearted apology last night)or not. We have to make them pay financially, for trying to disrupt the harmony and better understanding of race, we've had in this country Since Obama's election. (as well as insulting the President, by inferring he's a Chimp). "It took us a long time to get to this moment. And look what their trying to do us now.
Then something amazing happened (at least for my parents.
You see, my parents absolutely love American Idol. And they never miss it (You know those old folks, that are set in their ways and rituals)! I said to my parent's "And you know, that means you guys are gonna have to stop watching American Idol to". I thought that was going to be a deal breaker. As I waited in bated breath, sitting at the precipice of my chair, waiting and staring impatiently in the air. Then finally, my dad said to me:
"Guess what son, we already have"! My Dad proceeded to tell me, "we actually were watching it yesterday. And then I said to your mother, wait a minute doesn't Murdoch own Fox? I'm not watching this". So my dad told me "So I changed the channel, and me and your mother watched something else. We're never watching American Idol, or any Fox channel or show again!"
I said Wow!!
Now this is not going to be easy for many of us. Already, Olberman's guest on Countdown last night said, Murdoch is upset, embarrassed, and the Editor, will probably get transferred, retired, or fired (as I mentioned before. The paper also gave a conflicting apology last night).
I'll repeat! An apology, or Murdoch being upset is not good enough. We have to show Corporate America. That they can't be overtly irresponsible, anymore and get away with it! As much as we hated Obama being equated to a chimp. Ironically, Obama is one of the few subjects, of such an insult, that could garner a public outrage large enough for this multi-faceted boycott to be successful (and for the public good).
Now let's officially cancel our support of any Newcorp/Fox owned entity. We can call out Boycott FOX WATCH. That would include:
Fox Networks, Sporting events, entertain programs, news etc.
Fox Cable Networks, shows and news.
The Wall Street Journal, and Dow Jones affiliates.
20th Century Fox Films and of it's Murdoch owned movies, TV shows, etc.
Any Murdoch owned Record company or radio station (if they do).
Any Murdoch owned Newspaper, like the NY Post, or the London Time's (Yes! We can make this international baby!). Lol.
And lastly; Myspace. Yes Myspace! News Corporation, purchased it several years ago.
This can be enforced very easily. On websites like this. We can list all News Corporation owned companies and institutions. And when we're with our friends and family, etc. We can remind them, "You can't watch that movie, it's Fox owned, or you can't watch that TV show, it's Fox owned, etc. Between Obama's e-mail list, netroots, black radio, liberal radio host, etc. We can do this!
Already. This has created inner turmoil within The NY Post:
Today, meanwhile, the Post's Associate Editor, Sandra Guzman, sent out an email to other reporters distancing herself from the paper's cartoon and acknowledging that she has talked to management about her disapproval.
"Thank you for your feedback," reads the email. "Please know that I had nothing to do with the Sean Delonas cartoon. I neither commissioned or approved it. I saw it in the paper yesterday with the rest of the world. And, I have raised my objections to management. --Sandra Guzman.

There's also that have hearted apology, they published.

Either way; my hope and goal (recession or no recession), is to reduce News Corp overall sales, by 25% in 2009. Now don't you think that's a great goal to shoot for? Let's keep up the pressure and the fight!
It's only right!
Please list your own, fox owned programs, companies, affiliates, partnerships, or corporations your aware of here. And e-mail/forward them to your friends.
