Bill O'Reilly had an excellent follow-up tonight on the "Octamom".
Apparently, the eight babies are all still in the hospital and will be there at least until the summer.
The hospital bill will be in the millions. There's no bulk discount. Each baby requires a lot of expensive care.
They showed an interview with Ms. Suleman and her mother Angela (the grandmother). They were arguing with each other. Nadya makes all these crazy complaints about her mother, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the woman is taking care of her children--a job that she forced on her. The older woman seems like a good lady, doing the best she can. One wonders what will happen when the grandmother is incapable of caring for the kids.
Eventually, California will have to deal with placing all these kids. They'll probably all have disabilities.
All this because a sleazy doctor wanted to make some $50,000-$100,000 off of a seriously disturbed woman.
How can society condemn any welfare mother or accidental father who abandons his children when it funds a doctor who deliberately creates 14 children--several disabled-- with no father for a woman who's probably incapable of taking care of even one kid?
Dr. Michael Kamrava, who perpetrated this crime is the equivalent of a terrorist, intent on decimating the resources and the budget of the health care system and child services system so that he can take money from disturbed women who happen to have access to cash. In the case of Suleman, it was disability payments that she received.
This time, one has to salute the public for being ahead of the media.
When this story first came out on Day 1, the Kaiser Permanente hospital in California where the births took place held a news conference with the doctors treating it as a celebratory event and the media reports all treated it that way. It was only due to public outrage that the media in the ensuing days began to do some reporting on what an outrageous scandal and tragedy it is.
[The above poll is facetious in that the father and even the doctor will never have the ability to pay for the care of these children. But I believe ALL of the doctor's assets should be taken and given to the children.]
