I woke up to read the headline "We know the GOP messed up, says Jindal. We'll make it up to you." What's that sound like? A classic abusive husband. "Come on baby, you know I love you. I didn't mean to hurt you. I just hit you because I love you so much. Come on back to me baby, I'll make it up to you."
It's up the the American people now not to get "battered wife syndrome" and return to their abuser.
The GOP deregulated Wall Street and left it unregulated as the real estate bubble grew and burst and the foreclosures started rolling in.
The GOP called for tax cuts as a cure for everything - but tax cuts only help if you have an income, and an alarming percentage of the American people do not have incomes right now.
The GOP spent our money overseas in wasteful, unnecessary wars, throwing money into a very bloated Pentagon while neglecting our schools, roads, and bridges and failing to invest in our economy at home.
The GOP allowed lenders to prey on consumers, giving them loans they could never pay back and hiking interest rates to levels that would be called usury in another era. "Let the free market work," said the GOP.
And now we're here. In the toilet. Stuck in two wars, with a broken economy, dilapidated infrastructure, and badly in debt.
And what did John McCain say in November? "Come on baby, I hit you for your own good. I needed to deregulate the fat cats on Wall Street and plunge the country into a depression while sending our children to Iraq to die." But the American people had wised up. They didn't fall for it. They didn't go back to the abusive GOP.
We've got a new boyfriend now. A real man. (Michelle, I hope you don't mind this metaphor... he's ours when he's in the Oval Office and you get him the rest of the time.) Obama is going to fix the economy, rebuild our bridges and roads and schools, reform our human rights record, and get us the hell out of Iraq. And unlike Bush, who merely pretended to give up golf, Obama actually mourns - and feels responsibility - when Americans die overseas.
But the abusive GOP isn't even done abusing us. They voted against the stimulus, forcing us to "compromise" by making it less effective. Then governors like Bobby Jindal pledged to turn down the stimulus money. Turn down the money? If I lived in Louisiana I would be furious. Sure, the Republicans didn't vote for it but the money's there for the taking. In fact, New York wrote a letter saying that if any state turns down its share of the money, please send it to New York. So the money will be spent. As long as there's money for the taking, even if I opposed the overall bill, I would be furious if my state was not taking it!
And now Jindal, who is STILL continuing to beat us bloody to the best of his ability, tells us to come back to the GOP? Hell no. We've escaped from our abuser and we are staying the hell away. (And what kind of stupid abuser continues to throw punches at the air - i.e. obstructing every bill to the best of their lameass, minority ability - while begging his victim to return?)
