After many months of illegal telemarketing harassment, my only option is to change my phone number.
Dear Mr. President,
It appears to me that the National Do Not Call list is something that should be de-funded
by your administration. It is incapable of doing anything about the rising encroachment and
outright illegal behavior by telemarketers. Here is my story:
I transferred a telephone number from a second line at brothers house to a new cell phone after getting
back out on my own. I immediately signed up on the Do Not Call list. Over the last year and
a half, I have been contacted, on my cell phone, which is supposedly restricted, by no less
than 6 telemarketing firms. I diligently filed a report on at least two of them.
One in particular, now calls me daily with a 'restricted' phone number of their own so I cannot
report it. Every day the message says 'This is your final opportunity to act on this offer..."
Twice I have stayed on the line and politely requested that I be removed from their call list
and both times the person on the other end hung up before I finished a sentence. As of today,
I pushed "1" to say on and ask again, but now I just get dead air.
So, obviously they will not remove my number so they can sell it to some other unscrupulous company
and they have added my name to a do not respond list of their own. This is outright harassment,
and my only recourse now is to change my phone number (which may also be on a call list, according
to the Customer Service Representative) because the government either outright, or through inaction
condones this kind of behavior from our corporate community. The original
$50,000 fine per violation has apparently been thrown out the window.
If it is okay for the Do Not Call initiative to follow the Bush policies of doing just the opposite
of their intended purpose, please explain why my tax dollars are paying for their annual budget.
Thank You Mr. President.
My Name.
P.S. As you are supporting community and personal initiative to get our country back on the right track,
if you have any suggestions for me as a taxpayer and citizen how I might redress this issue I would be
most appreciative.
