Someone has to do it.
Breaking News from FiredogLake:
Members of Congress, led by Ellen Tauscher and the New Democrat Coalition, are bragging about their efforts to write housing law on behalf of banks and making it more difficult for homeowners to find mortgage relief. Tell your community that you expect your representative to oppose them and support their constituents. The more personal and relevant to your community you make it, the more likely it is to be published.

Ellen Tauscher (CA-10), so-called Democrat.
The executive director of the New Democrat Coalition is Adam Pase, a former bank lobbyist who worked on behalf of predatory lenders to kill regulation of sub-prime loans.
The New DEMOCRAT Coalition. That Republican meme which not so subtly suggests that there might be a "rat" about.
Not the New DEMOCRATIC Coalition. Too touchy-feely, caring... God! It's "liberal" sounding, that's what!
Seventy-five DEMOCRAT congresspersons, as opposed to the old unrealistic and starry-eyed Democratic, congress persons.
Among its membership, Adam Smith (WA-09), who could always be counted on to support GWB's invasion and occupation of Iraq, who would sign any GWB patriot bill sight unseen... who finds no reason at all to investigate and impeach GWB, Dickie Boy Cheney or anyone else on the Bush team.
Likewise, Jane Harman (CA-36) and member of the Blue Dog Coalition, who never saw a defense appropriations bill she didn't love. And Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin (SD), who also proudly calls herself a "Bluedog Democrat."
Indeed, there is a great deal of overlapping of the two groups, the New Democrat Coalition and the 47-member Blue Dog Democrat Coalition.
BarbinMD has compiled a complete list with telephone numbers of the Blue Dog Democrats at:

Now that we know who the New Democrat Coalition are, what are they?
This is the mission statement of the NDC:
Founded in 1997, The New Democrat Coalition (NDC) provides moderate, pro-growth Members of Congress with the opportunity to advance a common sense policy agenda to move our country in the right direction. New Democrats have built a reputation as the "go-to" group in Congress on the critical issues of economic growth, national security, personal responsibility, and technology development.
Hailing from every region of the country, New Democrats are intent on modernizing both the Democratic Party and the country. New Democrats support policies to expand economic growth and ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to benefit from that growth; a fiscally responsible and efficient government; a secure homefront; and a robust foreign policy that includes trade, constructive U.S. leadership throughout the world, and a modern and strong military.
Reorganized under new leadership at the beginning of the 109th Congress, the NDC is a cohesive core of active members committed to these legislative goals. NDC members engage in candid policy discussions during weekly meetings and look forward to bringing new members to these discussions as membership grows. While the NDC seeks to expand its ranks of like-minded members, it is also reaching out to experts for their help in gathering support for critical legislative priorities.

It is interesting to compare the NDC mission statement with the opening lines of the right wing Club for Growth mission statement:
Club for Growth is a national network of thousands of Americans, from all walks of life, who believe that prosperity and opportunity come through economic freedom. We work to promote public policies that promote economic growth primarily through legislative involvement...

It might also serve to keep in mind:
Club for Growth Policy Goals:
* Making the Bush tax cuts permanent
* Death tax repeal
* Cutting and limiting government spending
* Social Security reform with personal retirement accounts
* Expanding free trade
* Legal reform to end abusive lawsuits
* Replacing the current tax code
* School choice
* Regulatory reform and deregulation
to see how many of these pop up on NDC agendas.
One wonders, as well, why the mission statement of NDC fails to mention environmental issues, diplomacy and the state department, the health care crisis, avoiding monstrous financial disasters.
Not to mention this little gem of the NDC:
to move our country in the right direction.
Speaking of speaking in code... and the Republican buzzwords "personal responsibility."
