Chairman Steele is a coward.  Here's what I think he should have said:

Rush Limbaugh is a strong voice for the conservative movement.  I have a great deal of respect for his accomplishments.

However, Rush Limbaugh is not the Chairman of the Republican Party of the United States.  Nor is he a state Chairman, a County Chairman, or a precinct/ward captain within the Republican Party.  Rush Limbaugh does not speak for the Republican Party.  I encourage Rush to join the party, but at this time he has no official position within our party.

When Rush puts his megaphone aside and actually does some work within the official Republican party, then he will deserve respect from the elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee.

From me, he gets no respect.  Sorry.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    •  "Should have" is an odd construction (0+ / 0-)

It assumes that Chad Lupke & Michael Steele share both goals & and an ethos of what's proper to say in public.

If I felt that close to Michael Steele, I doubt I'd post it here.

      •  I'm speaking from my principles (0+ / 0-)

Michael Steele is the chairman of the Republican National Committee.  I don't like to fall into the hype of believing that a political party in the United States is not a democratic institution.  If Steele was elected as the chair, then he is the official voice of the Republican party.  I am a local party chair in Washington State.  Democratic Party.  I'm going to speak my mind and argue policies based on my progressive principles.  And I'll respect people on the other side of the debate that stand up for their own principles.  And I'll respect the opinions and votes of people in the Republican party who put Michael Steele in his position.  It doesn't mean I'll ever agree with any policy position held by Steele or anyone within the conservative movement or the party that carries their crap to the House or Senate floor.

The goal that I thought I shared with Michael Steele is to see the United States be the best nation we can be.  How we get there is the debate.

Rush Limbaugh can go jump in a lake.  But respect is a two way street, and I'll give it where it is due.

I don't want to see the Obama administration fail.  But I do believe that Rush Limbaugh and the conservative ideology HAS failed.

Whatever.  You're right, I probably shouldn't have posted this here.  Because too few people understand the concept of respect and democracy.

If Democrats have a pre-911 view of the world, Republicans have a pre-July 4th view of the world.

        •  So when you say (0+ / 0-)

Rush Limbaugh is a strong voice for the conservative movement. I have a great deal of respect for his accomplishments.

          You mean it?!

          & when you say

The goal that I thought I shared with Michael Steele is to see the United States be the best nation we can be.

You think your "best" is the same as his? How many years ago did you quit paying attention?

          •  Excuse me?! (0+ / 0-)

Any conservative should have respect for Limbaugh's accomplishments. Newt made him some honorary congressman or something in 1995 because he had helped them win in 1994.

I AM NOT A CONSERVATIVE.  I DON'T HAVE ANY RESPECT FOR RUSH, HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS OR HIS POSITIONS.  I WAS SHOVING WORDS INTO STEELE'S MOUTH AS IF HE HAD ANY SELF RESPECT.  Which he obviously doesn't.

I define "best" different from Steele.  I define it as low unemployment, high wages, and peace.  He probably defines it as high profits and the United States dominating the international scene.  I don't think that's the same thing.

Either you're just commenting back and forth to make yourself look foolish, or you're really in a confused state about what I was trying to say.  If the later, I'm sorry you're confused.  If the former, I don't have the time.

If Democrats have a pre-911 view of the world, Republicans have a pre-July 4th view of the world.

  •  Should have said, "No, thank you" (0+ / 0-)

when he was offered the job.

Better yet, should have said "what the fuck am I THINKING????" when he hooked up with the Grand Old Racist Party back when he was 17.
