Every time I turn on the news channels, and hear a Republican talking hat blame Obama for the stock market continuing to crash, I want to thrash the living daylights out of the person speaking, and the news channels giving them a voice. Yes, the markets are bad. Yes, they continue to slide. Is any of this because of Obama’s policies? I’d have to say no.
I think what we are seeing is a continuing domino effect of job losses, housing problems, and greed. The problems really started well over a year ago, with the first rounds of layoffs to hit unsuspecting employees. In that year, these legions of unemployed workers have burned through all their savings and their unemployment, leaving them with no option but to cash in any stocks or 401k’s they have. As unemployment runs out with no jobs in sight, these people are putting aside the fact that they will be losing money, and just taking the money they can get. While the sell off started with the banking problems, it continues because of the lack of jobs, and the large number of people that are reaching the ends of their resources.
The mortgage crisis is making these issues worse. People who could have counted on the equity of their home just a year ago, are now finding themselves stuck with negative equity in their homes. They need to get money from somewhere, just for day to day living, so again they are cashing in their stocks, even if it means they are taking a loss.
Obama’s policies are not causing the decline, the mess that he inherited is. If the drastic measures he is taking are not enacted, we are facing catastrophe of the highest measure. I am tired of these wing nuts on the right fighting for the sake of fighting. I am tired of the news agencies giving them credence. They want to see the bleeding stop? Then shut up and get with the program!!! The band aids of the last year are giving way with increasingly scary results. Tourniquets need to be applied now! Failure is not an option. Not now, not ever! Their way didn’t work, they should at least give Obama a chance. The time of self-serving conservatism is past, and the time to support each other is now. Enough is enough! It is time to show the world that we ARE decent and caring human beings that CAN and WILL support their neighbors, even if we have to drag them kicking and screaming for their own good.
