The Washington Post is reporting that the doctor who also plays one on TV, Sanjay Gupta has withdrawn his name from consideration for US surgeon general.
The Washington Post has a breaking story that CNN's chief medical correspondent, Sanjay Gupta, has pulled his name from consideration for U.S. Surgeon General, according to sources close to Gupta's decision.
Gupta, who had been the leading candidate for the post, withdrew his name even as President Obama hosted a health care summit at the White House. Gupta did not attend.
There was not immediate word to explain his decision. Sources had confirmed weeks ago that Obama had offered the job to Gupta and that the neurosurgeon had intended to take it. At the time, sources said Gupta would leave his network job for the government post.
Gupta, the WaPo said, was never named to the post officially, and was seen regularly on CNN in recent days. And it reported that Gupta wants to spend more time doctoring and on television.
Well, whose up next?
UPDATE: Well, if we put citizenx's diary together with this one and see that Wolf Blitzer reported this just before the Washington Post's text message to me, I think we know where Sanjay Gupta's loyalty is. Not with President Obama.
Sources "familiar with his decision" my ass. He let CNN break it before the President.
He's a stinking WEENIE.
