Kossak small business owners, rejoice! There is an economic windfall coming your way, via an unlikely source: wingnuts.
To explain, I'll have to do something unpleasant: refer you to Michelle Malkin. She celebrates a phenomenon called "Going Galt", which I guess has something to do with Atlas Shrugged, which I've never read, because doing so would interfere with rereading Pride and Prejudice for the 47th time.
Anyway, the idea is this: you cut back your work/business so that your income comes to $249,999, so that you don't pay one penny of tax at the new higher rate. As one genius Galter said:
"We have to find a way out where we can make just what we need to just under the line so we can benefit from Obama’s tax plan," she added. "Why kill yourself working if you’re going to give it all away to people who aren’t working as hard?"
Which, come to think of it is odd, because the new top rate is not 100%, as she suggests. It is, in fact, 39.6% - what it was in 2001. Since the top rate is currently 35%, the difference is just 4.6%. So she'd actually be keeping 60.4% of each dollar over $250K. Which strikes me as better than zero more than $250K, which is what she is is planning.
I guess I am going to have to read that novel if I'm going to really understand this. Sorry, Mr. Darcy, you'll have to wait.
However, one thing I know now: I'm a small business owner, and I think this is fantastic news. I am going to send anonymous letters to all my competitors encouraging them to Go Galt. 'Cause when they start playing golf two days a week, I'll be happy to step in and take up the slack. I'll be like one of John McCain's immigrant farm workers, picking lettuce for $50 an hour because the locals don't want to do the work.
I will, in short, be living the American Dream - working hard to get ahead and making my contribution to society.
