As if the statements of right-wing blowhard "Boss" Limbaugh weren't offensive enough, there's another statement that Republicans may have a hard time explaining because it reflects what they really think about health care.
The statement came from Rep. Zach Wamp (R-Tenn.), who claimed that health insurance was a "privilege, not a right."
Does this idiot and his allies really believe that Americans should be allowed to rot and die instead of have the coverage needed to fight off whatever health crisis comes? It sure makes me wonder.
More below.
The rest of the Wamp statement is nothing more than a sorry excuse designed to cover up the real Republican policy of treating folks like me as disposables more deserving to be thrown into the trash can rather than given the opportunities any American should be able to get.
Here's part of the Raw Story report about the Wamp rant:
Rep. Zach Wamp (Rep-Tenn) told MSNBC's Tamron Hall that Obama's proposed healthcare plans would be a "fast march to socialism", and that he believes that healthcare is not a right because many choose not to have insurance.
"This is almost class warfare in order for him to be able to say everyone now has health care. Listen, healthcare is a privilege," said Wamp.
The report continues:
The MSNBC anchor was almost taken aback by the "privilege" remark and asked Wamp to explain. "If you have cancer right now do you see it as a privilege to get some treatment?"
"I was just about to say, for some people it's a right but for everyone frankly it's not necessarily a right," he said. "Half the people uninsured today choose to remain uninsured. Half of them don't have any choice, but half of them choose to what's called 'go naked' and take the risk of getting sick. They end up in the emergency room costing you and me a whole lot more money."
After Wamp finished, Hall came very close to implying that the GOP couldn't come up with any viable alternatives.
So what do Republicans have left to argue against the efforts of President Obama and others to make sure everyone has access to decent health care? Sadly, they have nothing constructive to offer but the same old system that has failed so many.
No one should be allowed to rot and die. No one should be denied access to health care because of the anti-average American beliefs of such wicked GOP congressfolks as this jackass Wamp.
I sure hope every Republican representative nationwide is confronted with the heartless comments of this moron Wamp and be asked whether he or she agrees with those sentiments. The choice may become very easy for even the reddest of voters who suffer because of the lack of access to health care and health insurance.
