Well, today has not been the best day at Casa de Hornbeck. The cable has been out and it's still out. Thank goodness for DSL though that's been spotty too.
Or at least I hope that's the problem because I really don't want to rebuild my OS again.
All Stephen's guests this week are "to be announced" according to the Late Night TV page which tonight is especially helpful because I won't be able to see them.
But I'm a resourceful chap, not easily discouraged by minor setbacks and when absolutely forced to I'll even give Viacom some hits though Sumner Redstone is one of the anti-Christs.
Tonight- William Gerstenmaier, Associate Administrator for Space Operations, NASA; and Dr. Jay Keasling, Berkeley scientist trying to make a synthetic oil.
Hitler already tried that, he made it out of humans.
At least Bill and Jay have the good sense to hire publicists who know what a Wikipedia page is.
Likewise Craig Mullaney, Jon's guest. Among the reasons he's un-American is that he's a Rhodes Scholar, just like Rachel Maddow and Bill 'Communist' Clinton.
He speaks French too.
But your intrepid and faithful reporter is not afraid to dig even deeper in the sewers and cesspits of slime and muck (I kind of like how the alliteration of sewers, cesspit, and slime sets up a parallelism, but I didn't get very far in my thesaurus when looking for synonyms of muck- schmuck?)
Where was I?
Oh right, delving deep in the bowels of Colbert Nation to provide a laxative gut check, a colonoscopy of courage, worming my way in and pricking polyps of perjury and prejudice preventing premature perishing so that you don't have to (that one worked out rather nicely I think).
Wednesday
Howard Fineman- Villager. Whore. Author, "The Thirteen American Arguments".
Thursday
Simon Johnson, MIT's Sloan School of Management. He's formerly with the IMF so hopefully he can tell us what to expect when they take over our banana republic economy.
Peter Singer, Author, "The Life You Can Save". He's best know as the author of Animal Liberation which I expect like Computer Lib/Dream Machines you can turn upside down and read again.
But ek, why so forward looking?
This will be my third diary in three days. Things are stacking up and ct is not my friend. In fact my next project is determining how damaging the banishment of style actually is although I have encouraging signs on two fronts one of which is that ct is willing to work with me on developing some table classes that can add flexibility on how to attractively present your work.
The other is that my nest of late night reprobates and scoundrels that we charitably call the Overnight News Digest has already demonstrated some work arounds (h/t palantir).
And yet despite my devotion to anal retentive behavior like scheduling, my little universe is already breaking down into wild entropy. PerfectStormer was supposed to do tomorrow, but he already did Monday. Kyle the Mainer has problems that put mine into unflattering perspective and will be unable to host us Thursday.
So, as always, I'm looking for suckers volunteers.
Sorry to be a perpetual mendicant, it diminishes my credibility.
