No, not John McCain...his 24-year-old daughter, Meghan, who was just on with Rachel Maddow for two full segments.
I'm sure the video will be up soon at the show's website, and I hope you'll forgive me for not transcribing the whole thing (taking care of two kids while mrs. ipsos recovers from surgery), but it was a most interesting 12 minutes or so of teevee...
Yes, young Ms. McCain is very much a Republican, or at least says she is (though she's only been registered as such since last June), but she ripped into Ann Coulter something fierce on a Daily Beast posting the other day, and she agreed to come on with Rachel...who of course treated her with the kind of respect that only Rachel seems to be able to muster on cable news these days.
And no, Ms. McCain has no clue about the economy, though she was at least forthright enough to admit it.
But she is willing to say what most Republicans can't or won't - that the party can't sit there being nothing but "the party of no" and continue to exist. Being 24 and all, I'm willing to allow that she has some insight into how the next generation entering politics sees things...and if she, daughter of John and Cindy, sees something wrong, well - her party's elders ought to listen, no?
Which of course means she'll get ripped to shreds by the party orthodoxy, probably sooner rather than later.
(She said something else to Rachel, too, that was very un-Republican-orthodox: that she enjoys writing and speaking out because - gasp! - she's curious about the world around her and about how other people live their lives. Can't have that in the closed shell of the GOP, can we, now?)
UPDATE: Here are the videos:
Oops - the MSNBC "embed" links didn't work. The videos are up on Rachel's site, anyway...and if anyone knows how to put up MSNBC video, I'm all ears...
